Photographers and painters i like

The first photo was taken by Steve McCurry, a photographer know for taking photos all overseas. Steve was born in Philadelphia. A lot of his work appears inNational Geography. I like his work because he focuses on people in poor countries and is able to show pain and sadness in his photos.

The second picture was taken by Annie Leibovitz who was born October 2, 1949 in Westbury, CT. She has worked for many magazines such as Rolling Stones and Vanity Fair and focuses many on celebrities. I like how in a lot of her work, like the one i have posted, replicates disney movies or fairy-tale movies and she uses celebrities as her models. This one is set up to look like Peter Pan.

The third piece was done by portrait painter of the name Pamela Jaffe. She focuses mainly on children when she paints her portraits. I love the work she does because of how detailed she is and the way she is able to make the painting look like a picture.

The last photo is the work of another photographer that caught my attention. Her name is Caroline Zenker. She is not a famous photographer so there is not much i can find about her. Her work is very retro and vintage which is why i definitely like her work. Her work is so simple but has such beautiful color and meaning.

Questionnaire

1. Name, phone #, and e-mail: Mariana Nicole Harrison, (469) 222-0008, marianaharrison8@yahoo.com

2. What’s your major? What year will you graduate? Business Major, 2013

3. Why did you choose a photography class (or photography as a major), and what do you hope to learn from school in general and this class specifically? I'm interested in Photography because i have sisters who have gotten me to like it and my mom also does it for a hobby. I hope to find something i really like to do and for now it is my minor but if i began to like it a lot i want to make it my major. I'm just trying to find something that i can do for the rest of my life that i find interesting and not a profession where i hate my job everyday!

4. What are your goals after graduation? Please list your goals in reverse order, starting five years out, then three, two, one, and six months. honestly, i have NO idea. I know that i want to eventually find a job, marry, and when i am stable have children but haven't given it too much thought.

5. What artists, musicians, photographers, writers, movies, books have influenced you/your work? my sisters really, never been interested in other artists, photographers or anything really, hopefully after this class I'll be able to have more influences.

6. Where do you get information about current national and international events? the news, or my mother likes to keep me informed.. lol

7. Are there any important websites that you are referencing for art/photo competitions and/or information? no..

8. What museums and/or galleries have you been to in the past year? none in the past year.

9. Have you had any photo projects and/ or training in the past? no.

10. What is the value of art for the artist? depends on how the artists feel about the art. If it took them 1 min to make and they are able to do it many times it may not be valued to them as much as art work that they have been working on for days.

11. What is the value of art for the audience? again, it depends, but this time on how the audience looks at the art. if they don't see the true meaning of the art it may not have as much of a value to them, but if it is able to touch them they value it more.

12. Is photography a vocation or an avocation? well it is definitely an avocation for me and will be still if i make it my major, but then it will also be a vocation, as well

13. What is your passion? haven't found my calling just yet.

  1. 14.What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable? dogs that attack me, short talk makes me uncomfortable.

15. Do you have a passport? no, but i will be getting one shortly, I'm going to Japan this Summer!
